Description

PDF displays full title in running head rather than Chapter Short Title (appears in the PDF running header).

Expected behaviour

PDF displays Chapter Short Title (appears in the PDF running header)

Actual behaviour

PDF displays full title in running head which creates text collision
mpdf long title

Steps to reproduce the problem

Create chapters and export to mPDF

System Information

  • mPDF for Pressbooks: mPDF for Pressbooks: 3.2.1
  • Pressbooks: Pressbooks: 5.5.6
  • WordPress: 4.9.8
  • Book Theme: Open Textbooks 2.1.4
  • Root Theme: Aldine 1.5.0

FYI 1
I did not encounter this issue with another site with the following system specs:

  • mPDF for Pressbooks: mPDF for Pressbooks: 3.2.1
  • Pressbooks: 5.4.7
  • WordPress: 4.9.8
  • Book Theme: Open Textbooks 2.1.4
  • Root Theme: Aldine 1.4.1

FYI 2
Textbooks for Pressbooks 4.2.0 in WordPress but Github states latest release as 4.2.1

I can't reproduce this one because my mPDF book is only showing the Book title in the mPDF running head, and there are no mPDF theme options that allow me to control what appears in the running head.

@pbstudent can you describe to me how you were able to get the chapter titles to appear in the running head in mPDF?

The mPDF running header is the full title of the text rather than the short title:

The metadata field data is not being displayed in the PDF export.

Thanks for the clarification. From what I can tell, there is no way to get a chapter title to appear in the mPDF running header, and as such, there is no way to get the chapter short title to appear.

However, we can leave this issue here as a feature request.

I do see that when a book title is long, mPDF will not use the short book title that is set on the Book Info page in the mPDF running head. I will open a new issue for this.

Request for the ability to set what text appears in the mPDF running head, similar to the options available for Prince PDF (see below screenshot), which allows you to select what appears in the right and left page running head for front matter, chapters, and back matter:
