This repository contains various TopoJSON (a file extension of GeoJSON that encodes topology) files for the United Kingdom.

These were created for use with ONSVisuals map visualtions. Below is a description of the files:

  • Name: The Lower Super Output Area
  • Desc: Lower Layer Super Output Areas are a geographic hierarchy designed to improve the reporting of small area statistics in England and Wales
  • Raw data: ONS Open Geography Portal

  • Name: The Middle Super Output Area
  • Desc: Middle Layer Super Output Areas are a geographic hierarchy designed to improve the reporting of medium area statistics in England and Wales.

  • Name: Clinical Commissioning Groups
  • Desc: Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) were created following the Health and Social Care Act in 2012, and replaced Primary Care Trusts on 1 April 2013. They are clinically-led statutory NHS bodies responsible for the planning and commissioning of health care services for their local area

  • Name: UK Regions
  • Desc: The regions, formerly known as the government office regions, are the highest tier of sub-national division in the UK. EW refers to England and Wales. E refers to England. GB refers to Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales, excluding Northern Ireland)

  • Name: Local Authorities (Lower Tier Local Authorities) HEX format
  • Desc: Local Authorities within the United Kingdom (sometimes referred to as Lower Tier Local Authorities) in hexagon format so that each represents the same geographic area on a map

  • Name: Local Authorities (Lower Tier Local Authorities)
  • Desc: Local Authorities within the United Kindgom (sometimes referred to as Lower Tier Local Authorities). GB refers to Great Britain (Scotland, Wales and England, excluding Northern Ireland). E refers to England. EW refers to England and Wales. UK refers to the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

  • Name: NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) Level 1
  • Desc: NUTS are the statistical regions correspond with the regions of UK as used by the Office for National Statistics. NUTS 1 is the highest level and comprises 12 areas (Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and nine regions of England)

  • Name: NUTS (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics) Level 2
  • Desc: NUTS are the statistical regions correspond with the regions of UK as used by the Office for National Statistics. NUTS 2 is the middle level and comprises 40 areas (Northern Ireland, counties in England (most grouped), groups of districts in Greater London, groups of unitary authorities in Wales, groups of council areas in Scotland)

  • Name: Local Authorities (Lower Tier Local Authorities) OS square format
  • Desc: Local Authorities within the United Kingdom (sometimes referred to as Lower Tier Local Authorities) in square format so that each represents the same geographic area on a map

  • Name: Counties and Unitary Authorities (Upper Tier Local Authorities)
  • Desc: Counties and Unitary Authorities within the United Kingdom (sometimes referred to as Upper Tier Local Authorities)

  • Name: Regions of the United Kingdom
  • Desc: The main regions of the United Kingdom (Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the nine regions of England)

  • Name: Local Authorities (Lower Tier Local Authorities) for England and Wales in HEX format
  • Desc: Local Authorities within England and Wales (sometimes referred to as Lower Tier Local Authorities) in hexagon format so that each represents the same geographic area on a map

  • Name: Built up Area and Built up Area Sub-Divisions
  • Desc: Built up Area and Built up Area Sub-Divisions for England and Wales/Great Britain . This comprises towns and cities within England and Wales/Great Britain
