I have applied for the Chisel Community: https://www.outreachy.org/communities/cfp/chisel/ Submit an Outreachy Intern Project ProposalChisel welcomes experienced community contributors to help out as mentors. Each mentor will need to submit an intern project proposal. The project proposal will then be reviewed and approved by the FOSS community coordinator. Additional co-mentors for the intern project will be able to sign up for the project after it has been approved by the community coordinator. All proposed intern projects need to be released under licenses that are either an OSI-approved open source license that is also identified by the FSF as a free software license, OR a Creative Commons license approved for free cultural works. Please read the additional Outreachy project requirements before submitting an intern project proposal. Please make sure you understand the mentor requirements, especially the time commitment requirement. |

Hi Chisel3 Devs & Community,
I'd like to encourage us to apply as a community for Outreachy (https://www.outreachy.org/communities/cfp/). From their website:
SiFive can sponsor 1 intern this round and probably provide a "lead" mentor, but we'd need to work together as a community to welcome the applicants, identify good first projects, etc. Especially there is a month-long "contribution" period in October, where applicants ramp up and learn how to contribute to the project as part of their application period. It would be good to have a bunch of smaller tasks identified before that and everyone be aware what is happening.
The deadline to apply as a community is Sept 10 (Sept 18 to identify projects). The applications for interns close Sept 3, so if we decide to apply as a community it would be good to announce it soon so that we can potentially encourage those interested in Scala, hardware, etc to apply to the Outreachy program in general.
Thoughts? I'll come to this week's Dev meeting too to answer any questions!
Megan
