a Sails application

start the app locally

sails lift

deploy the app to heroku

assuming app is in a published git repo

  • open local app directory cd my/app/directory/appName touch Procfile && open Procfile
  • add this to the Procfile: web: npm start
  • save and close Procfile
  • open package.json in app directory
  • find the scripts block then set the start value to sails lift like this "start": "sails lift"
  • your scripts block in the package.json file should look like this
"scripts": {
  "start": "sails lift",
  "debug": "node debug app.js"
},
  • create heroku instance heroku create
  • deploy to heroku git push heroku master
