by default, EEPROM is not filled up with reasonable, default data. Nodes need to be configured through the configuration program.
solution: fill up EEPROM at very first use with defaults, possibly during flashing using avrdude.
(ex.: batchfile invoking avrdude, copying data into EEPROM after flashing)
