Make Measurements

Open the GCS Measurement Software

To open the measurement software, first you will need to get to uhurub. Then open solarsoft with IDL using the command

sswidl

You then start the software using the command

make_cme_mass_fits

This command will bring up the window that will allow you to select the time and date of the CME and the instruments which you wish to measure using. Once you have chosen the CME and the instruments you wish to measure with, the image selection window will pop up.

Name the File

Since this program names files based on the start date of the CME, it can be difficult to distinguish between multiple CMEs which occur on the same day. To solve this problem we have decided to add a number to the beginning every file name to differentiate between CMEs. Whenever you begin measuring a CME, check whether there are multiple CMEs on that day. If there are multiple CMEs then prepend the number (starting at 0) CME that it is that day. For example if you are measuring the 3rd CME on a given day, then you would prepend 2 to the file name. If there is only one CME on that day, prepend 0.

You prepend by typing the number into the Output Directory field as shown below.
