Tulipa

Energy System Optimization Tools from TNO and eScience

Overview

Tulipa is a group of tools that applies analytical methods to improve decision-making in the electricity market and its coupling with other energy sectors (e.g., hydrogen, heat, natural gas, etc.). Employing techniques from mathematical sciences, such as modelling, statistics, and optimization, Tulipa reaches optimal or near-optimal solutions to long-term generation and expansion problems considering operational details (e.g., unit commitment, operational reserves, seasonal storage, flexibility requirements), decarbonization pathways (e.g., emission constraints, renewable shares, retrofitting), and resilience to extreme weather conditions (e.g., Dunkelflaute).

Tulipa is presently being developed by TNO and the Netherlands eScience Center, with contributions from TU Delft and Utrecht University. Tulipa is primarily being financed by TNO, incorporating research financed by NWO.

Please stay tuned for the forthcoming releases of Tulipa by following this organization on GitHub.
