I am currently a researcher studying the impact of decreasing sea ice on bowhead whale migration and the increasing overlap between whales and vessels in the Bering-Chukchi region. I am also a consultant at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory evaluating technologies for detecting marine mammals around offshore wind construction activities.
I earned my PhD as a Dr. Nancy Foster Scholar from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. I use a variety of tools β including animal-mounted tags and seafloor hydrophones β to study baleen whale migration and ecology, and the threats they face in a human- and climate-impacted ecosystem. My research spans the sub-Arctic to the Arctic and mainly focuses on bowhead, blue, and humpback whales.
