About

Code Across America is a multi-day, distributed event Feb 22-24 that any municipality or community can join, big or small, beginner or expert. Individuals and groups can Code Across America through virtual and in-person activities around the country. February 23rd is International Open Data Day.

Activity Suggestions & Discrete Tasks

  1. Publish a searchable, thematic map
  2. Open civic data
  3. Develop a plan for an app deployment
  4. Make a local Open Impact
  5. Connect with someone in your local government for the first time
  6. Work on a local open government initiative
  7. Edit your LocalWiki or stand up a new LocalWiki project!
  8. Draft a Code of Conduct for Brigade
  9. Work on Brigade site issues & milestones
  10. Teach people to social code with GitHub
  11. Upgrade an old civic league web site to a new one on Word Press.
  12. Develop a strategic plan for a local brigade
  13. Do research on procurement where you live. Use CfA Commons wiki organize results and report. Help us understand how to improve access for freelancers & startups
  14. Do research and analysis around civic technology in your city.
  15. Take pictures, produce videos, create and curate the online record of your event
  16. Implement Click That 'Hood for your city.
  17. Update or rewrite a municipal job description to include skills necessary for digital age (can port from other cities, ex., City of Boston New Urban Mechanics)
  18. Update or rewrite an RFP to create space for open source and startups.
  19. Publish an info-graphic or data visualization from municipal data
