Starting the Timetable

In the OR menu choose timetables and the timetable set "PLAYER timetable" Beginners should ignore other timetable sets. In the "timetable " box choose the highest alpha numeric on offer currently NfI3. Dont choose the "STATIC" timetable - these are empty trains Choose from the big list of trains. To just watch trains select an observer - one with obs in the title. Dont run any of the following "ECS, EGS,EVS" these are empty and OR will complain about the lack of loco.

  1. From the Open Rails Menu choose a timetable.
  2. Choose a train. Trains are in start time order from midnight. Although OR has a facility to run trains through midnight, this is not used in Nf route. Trains with “Obs”in the title are observer trains. They are static and allow the player to simply watch trains.
  3. To help your choice there is a 1 line summary of the train activity.

Loading the timetable

Loading times can be long, up to 30 min. This is because OR must run all the timetable trains up to the player start time. ( the prerun phase). You could do some chores, look at the route documentation and readmes (please do!) Even reading emails etc. You can save (F2) Once a timetable has loaded , and later resume, skipping the prerun phase. timetables can be changed to access binary paths, with faster loading (not currently implemented) see the OR manual

Loaded- then What?

Initially, it may seem hard to know what to do. Many trains have guidance on the F1 "briefing tab". Otherwise drive towards any siding exit or green signal. Night trains can be set to run in daylight by using the time offeset in the CTRL 9 timetable viewer You can find info from the master spreadsheet "NfI3.ODS" Open with Libre Office or apache open Office. Find it in \NewforestrouteV3\Routes\watersnake\activities\openrails Please do look at the documentation.

Open Rails version

Always run the latest Unstable version of Open Rails, or the ORNYMG fork. Make sure that "simple controls" is NOT checked in options. If there is a choice run the 64bit option. In general maximise available memory, although reading emails etc in the prerun phase seems not to give problems #

An example timetable run

From the open rails menu choose Timetable, timetable set : PLAYER TIMETABLE : timetable: NfI3 (or the highest alpha numeric) Finally the train 0005ElghLE70A65H15. Then START. While the timetable is loading ,the train name means 00:05 Eastleigh Light Engine shed code 70A - Nine Elms (london) depot. Engine class H15.

The F1 Briefing tab

The briefing gives guidance. it is available from the start Menu. If you can only see part of the briefing press the up arrow in the RHS side bar The briefing is also available in game by F1 : and the middle tab between controls and procedures. you must have started the train before the in game briefing is available. 0005Elgh1

####### The Briefing Format

Briefings are given as TASK: NEXT: PREV: NOTES: TASK: the current job NEXT: The next train formed by the current train in the duty cycle PREV: Any previous train the current train is derived from. NOTES: some explanation
