No page tables are implemented. This imposes restrictions on the usable virtual address space. Essentially, 2 DBATS and 1 IBAT are needed by the BSP, leaving the remaining for application usage. A simple 1:1 (virt<->phys) mapping is employed. DBAT0 and IBAT0 0x00000000 0x0fffffff 1st 256M, for MEMORY access (caching enabled) DBAT1 0xf0000000 0xffffffff last 256M for IO access (no caching, guarded) Note that the DBAT1 setup must match the host bridge configuration. The BSP does _not_ currently change the latter but relies on SMON configuring it. This seems to work well for the default configuration. UPDATE: (2003/1). The BSP now uses page tables for mapping the entire RAM. DBAT0 is hence free for use by the application. The BSP write-protects the text and read-only data areas of the application. The default VME configuration uses DBAT0 to map more PCI memory space for use by the universe VME bridge: DBAT0 0xc0000000 PCI memory space <-> VME 0xcfffffff 0xc0000000..0xceffffff VME A32 0xcf000000..0xcffeffff VME A24 0xcfff0000..0xcfffffff VME A16 MAILBOX ------- By default, all memory is mapped with caching enabled and the text area is write-protected. Both settings make it impossible to write to the mailbox which is present on the VGM series boards. To use the mailbox, an application can override BSP_pgtbl_setup() (copy from powerpc/shared/startup and modify) to map the first page RW with caching inhibited. Unfortunately, write protection of the exception vector area will be lost.
