Sandbox to Elmer Guidelines

Chris Peak edited this page Apr 25, 2019 · 2 revisions

Some of us have been developing data sets in the Sandbox database on SQL Server for eventual importation into Elmer. Here are some guidelines I think it might be useful to have around that process.

These are definitely in draft mode, so please let Chris know if you see any flaws in this proposed process:

  • Process Overview

Once a table is staged in Sandbox and the owner gives Chris the OK, he will port the data over to Elmer. This porting process might reconfigure the structure of the data set but will not change the contents of the data itself. Once the data is moved into Elmer, Chris will follow back and ask the owner to verify the porting was done appropriately.

  • Data Accuracy Trumps Table Structure

Don't worry about using the most efficient data types, the most appropriate tabular structure of the data, etc. Chris will attend to those when he ports it into Elmer. Instead, make sure the values in the table(s) in Sandbox are accurate.
