Training
Everyone on the data science team gets a subscription to DataCamp, Plural Sight, or Coursera.
Each individual chooses one course to start. We can also team up to take courses where it makes sense. We check in at the team meetings about how our learning is going.
What to do over the next week:
-
Identify your top learning need(s)
-
Choose your site
-
Share your choices with the group on this page.
Person | Top Learning Needs | Which subscription |
---|---|---|
Angela | SQL, R, big data, data model | DataCamp |

Notes: Current users
Christy and Mike: DataCamp Current price is $12.50 per month data camp
Chris: Plural sight
Angela: I started taking this course Statistics with R, also shopping around Udemy for SQL and Tableau.
Needs - SQL, Git, Test-driven development, Agile Software, data viz, statistics, managing a data science team :), R
Needs to be flexible with many levels
Should include many topics
Doesn't need to be the perfect one - let's get it going soon
Mike's notes: Datacamp has bite-sized courses that involve you in typing answers in code (in a integrated browser-window IDE). Coursera and edX are longer courses (more time commitment). Udacity courses generally require a larger fee but also involve more feedback and more substantial assigned projects that require you to put the skills into practice [review of best data science courses](: https://medium.freecodecamp.org/the-best-data-science-courses-on-the-internet-ranked-by-your-reviews-6dc5b910ea40)
